Traditional Toys

Jessie Katsukin Takamura made 'Traditional Toys' based on gender-neutral colours. Despite the use of eye-catching colours marmalade-orange, honey-yellow, and basil-green, these warm hues are toned down harmoniously by the cloud grey background. Growing up with two brothers, Jessie has been constantly motivated to challenge gender stereotypes. Instead of restricting pink dolls to girls and blue cars to boys, wooden cultural toys from all around the world act as the main focus of this digital illustration. The random orientation of the motifs aims to show the different possibilities of portraying and harmonising genders. However, this piece is not to be mistaken as a Feminist work, but more of one that supports gender equality.
